Men’s Beauty Guide – London Edition

Men are probably the most interest demographic in terms of beauty and fashion. While women are clearly more involved to say the least, it’s no surprise that men are lagging behind. As a fashionista, it boggles my mind to see grungy men walking in the streets all day.

This beauty guide is gonna focus on some basic, quick to enact essentials for men to take note of. Let’s begin.

Control Your Facial Hair Properly

The first mistake that is evident is guys have no idea how to maintain their facial hair. It’s very simple. Either shave it well, without clawing your skin off, or keep your beard neat and tidy. If your skin can’t handle a razor shave because it is too sensitive, switch to one of these top foil or rotary electric shavers and thank us later.

Some facial hair styles that are in trend right now in London is the short stubble, which the electric shaver can definitely do, or just go clean shaven altogether. You can also be bold and have a full beard, but that will require a lot more attention so if you’re lazy, just shave.

Use a Moisturizer and Sunscreen

We know that you don’t have time to follow the arduous and time consuming process of skin care, but the bare minimum is essential to the well-being of your skin. All you have to do takes 2 minutes a day max. Firstly, cleanse your face at night, removing all the excess particles and dirt that accumulated through the day. Then, in the morning just apply a moisturizer for hydration and a SPF 30+ sunscreen for protection against the leading cause of skin related issues, the sun.

That’s it. You can then move on with your day knowing that you will not age rapidly, especially if you are one of those guys that spend an ample amount of time outside.

Reminder to shower and use deodorant

A lot of guys simply stink. Whether you like or not, it’s true. This can be easily prevented by showering and using deodorant. A natural deodorant is better for you hygienically and healthily, but it does cost more than your cheap Axe body spray.

Still, it’s better to not smell bad so the Axe will do. For those of you that can spare 6 quid, this Salt of the Earth natural deodorant is exceptional. Use it after your shower at night so it absorbs into your skin and in the morning before you go out.

Floss, Floss, Floss

Flossing is extremely important for your dental health. Unfortunately, London is a place where dental health is often neglected and we are embarrassingly made fun of by a country that is just west of the Atlantc ( yes, were talking about you Americans 😛 ).

In all seriousness, you should brush your teeth twice a day and floss after each meal. Now I know most guys will never do that, so just floss at least once at night and it will make a massive difference.

This beauty guide has pretty much covered the essentials, and we can keep going but I feel that it might become a case of information paralysis. Let’s see some more of you male Londoners take your beauty seriously so that we can compete for best looking men in the world !

London Fashion Weekend: 19-22 September 2013

London Fashion Week kicks off on Friday with presentations from PPQ, Jasper Conran and Eudon Choi, but we’re already buzzing about what comes next. Vodaphone London Fashion Weekend will be taking over Somerset House, the ultimate LFW venue, from the 19th-22nd September and tickets are on sale now.

This is our chance to get an insider’s glimpse into the famously-inaccessible fashion world. Alongside more than fifty stylish pop-up shops (including Splendid Paige Denim, Joseph, House of Harlow and Linda Farrow), the British Fashion Council will be hosting runway shows.

Designer High or “Trend” Show?

Choose when you’re buying your ticket whether you’d rather see a designer highlight or a ‘trend’ show; we’re leaning towards the Shape Up show with Holly Fulton and Matthew Williamson, but there’s also Pretty in Pink, Back to Nature and Victoriana. If you opt for a designer highlight instead your options are PPQ, Giles, Holly Fulton, Julien Macdonald and Ashish.

The Vodaphone Lounge will be hosting talks from world-renowned stylists, editors and tastemakers: Hilary Alexander and the ELLE editorial team have stopped by in the past, and we’re awaiting confirmation of this year’s line-up. You can even add a TONI&GUY wash, cut and blow dry to your ticket to make sure you’re looking your best, or scoop an exclusive Sister by Sibling tote if you go for a ‘Shop & the Lot’ or ‘Shop & Bag’ ticket.

There’s a potentially confusing number of entry options on the London Fashion Weekend ticket page, so browse the website and tot up everything you want to see and do before you buy. Then all you need to do is decide between a day and evening ticket (the hours vary slightly each day), and work out what you’re going to wear.

London Fashion Weekend and LFW

But London Fashion Weekend isn’t the only way for non-insiders to get a taste of LFW. We’re also planning to attend a screening of The September Issue at Silent Cinema’s pop-up space in Covent Garden (they’ll be showing Grey Gardens and Zoolander too) and sip fashion-themed cocktails at The Mayfair Hotel. They’re launching their new shoe bar with a special collection of drinks for LFW, including the Strappy Sandal and Peep Toe.

And don’t forget that a lot of the runway shows will be streamed live online. Grab a front row seat in front of your laptop from Friday, and revel in the creativity that London’s so famous for.

Street Style: Thomas & Nathan

Thomas and Nathan

These guys are the epiphany of East London street style, rugged but stylishly suave…

The student duo Thomas and Nathan have gone for street styles that are simple but cool, the beauty with this kind of look is it is easy to recreate the same kind of look with other pieces in your wardrobe. The choice of clothes they are wearing are of a similar style, their outfits comprises of skinny trousers, a statement jacket and a good pair of kicks.

Thomas has gone for more of the camouflage tonal palette to work well with the forest green of his jacket. His brown trousers are skinny with extra detailing of patterned pockets. Thomas has paired his trousers with a blue pinstriped shirt and khaki green jacket which you can see has military style aesthetics’ infused from the way the jacket is cut and the style of badges adorned.

Nathan on the other hand has gone for skinny turned up jeans, a printed white tee and what looks to be a vintage leather jacket, which all assists in making that bold fashion statement we love!
