1. Screen on the Green, Angel, N1 (Best for Solo Cinema goers)

The Screen on the Green cinema is a cosy intimate cinema with an iconic fronting and equally attractive interior including a vintage auditorium. They run a wide range of varied and independent films as well as live stream gigs and events from the National Theatre and Met Opera via satellite feed.

2. Rio Cinema, Dalston, E8 (Best for Film Snobs)

The Rio Cinema in Dalston is a community run cinema and single screen picture house built in 1909 and redecorated to its current impressive art deco architecture in 1937. It runs one film a week which tends to sell out pretty quickly so it’s best to book in advance. The films that are selected tend to be mid-range indie films and some more mainstream blockbusters. They screen 3D films at no extra charge which is great.

3. The Electric Cinema, Notting Hill, W11 (Best for kissing in the back row)

Soho House run Electric Cinema is film watching at its opulent best. You can choose between sitting on an armchair, a sofa or if you’re feeling really decadent; one of the six double beds on the front row complete with cashmere throw. The programme is comprised of a mix of quality mainstream and more art house films to suit any taste. The perfect first date cinema if ever there was one.


4. The Prince Charles Cinema, Leicester Place, WC2H (Best for Value / Events)

The Price Charles Cinema is located in the heart of the West End but that hasn’t stopped it from having some of the most competitive prices we’ve ever seen. This is one of the most fun cinemas in London and regularly runs fantastic sing-alongs and showings. For the screening of Mean Girls viewers had to dress up as their favourite lunch clique; plastics, burnouts or sexually active band geeks!

The Phoenix cinema is one of the oldest cinemas in the country and after an impressive £1.1m restoration is still one of the most regularly visited picture houses to boot. The Phoenix is a truly family friendly cinema with regular children’s screenings and events. This cinema is fantastically accessible for disabled viewers and even has an elevator to get to the viewing platforms.
